Setting up word Press on you Godaddy Hosting
account
Before you install Wordpress make sure you
have the right account.
The Economy, Deluxe or Premier Hosting
Account
If you have a website tonight account you will
not be able to install Wordpress to it. You will have two options
-
Get a hosting account in
addition to a website Tonight account - good if you want to keep a wysiwyg
editor.
-
Can swap or upgrade to a hosting
package. A better solution but you will loose the capability to edit your website. However there
are other benefits. You can develop multiple sites or simply use the Blog
tools.
The Procedure to Follow
-
Log in to your godaddy Account
Manager.
-
In the My Products section, select
Hosting.
-
Next to the hosting account you want to modify, click Manage Account.
-
On the Hosting Control Center home page, click Your Applications.
-
Click the Blog category
on the left, and then click Wordpress.
-
Click Install
Now.
-
Read the End User License Agreement, and then
click I Agree.
-
Choose the domain to install Wordpress to.
-
Enter a database description and password, and then
click Next.
-
Choose an installation directory see note,
and then click Next.
-
Enter the
following
-
-
Admin
Name,
-
Admin
Password
-
Email
-
Blog
Title
for your Wordpress installation.
-
Click Finish.
Note if this is going to be your main application then install to the route directory. If it is not
going to be your main website then create a sub directory - name the directory (I use /Blog. I.e., my main
website is on www.davegant.com and my Wordpress Blog is found at www.davegant.com/Blog)
Wordpress will be installed to your hosting
account with the options you selected. When it is complete, you will receive a confirmation
email.
You can then take a look at your Blog and at this stage you may
wish to upload a new theme.
If you cannot access your Blog contact tech support at
godaddy for advice – they are very helpful but before that if you have a main site up and running your
.htaccess file in the route directory maybe forcing all activity to your route domain and not allowing direct
access to sub folders. In which case
Go into Files and look for the .htaccess
file
In the route directory rename .htaccess to
.bkhtaccess
In the php_uploads folder tick the box then select set
permissions to password protected and assign a user. Remember the password. This will prevent anyone else
gaining access and changing the php_uploads folder.
If you get stuck with this Godaddy will be able to help. That’s why I chose
Godaddy.
Ok Once you have set up Wordpress Blog log into your dashboard at
the domain name and link you chose again for me it is http://www.davegant.com/Blog
As a further option If you get stuck you can go to Wordpress for
further information. It will also explain other installation options.
