Simply follow the 6 basic step guide:-

2. Hosting account 
3. Website, Blog site or both. 
4. Auto responder/Contact management system 
5. Tracking 
6. Advertising 

Once you have these basics in place you are set to go. One major point - As you develop your online presence you will be more seceptical to viruses and phrishing sites. It will be good practice to protect yourself against this especially if you are developing a large list of people - the last thing you want to happen is to have your email hijacked and trogon's sent to everyone on your list. Getting shut down by your ISP is not an option. I have tried many Internet security suites but the one I rely on is Kaspersky.

1. Domain name

Put simply this is a string of letters that points to a unique addressing system based on the Domain Name System (DNS) for various networking and applications on the internet that will bring people to your information website or social media application, i.e. Blog.

For now don't concern yourself with the complexities a .com will be a good start. When deciding on a domain name try and keep it short and easy to convey to people.

There are many places you can get your domain from just type it in the search box to see if it is available. Its a good idea to brand your own name. You can trade legally as a sole trader under your own name. A good place to start hence for me www.davegant.com

2. Hosting account

If you are on a really tight budget you might want to go back to step 1. Monetization Options and building up your cash flow before you get into your own stuff.  However these next steps wont bust the bank but you will require approximatly $50 to get up and running.

This is where you will put the information that you want your web visitors to see either in the form of a website or a Blog. There are different types of account that range from 0ne or five web pages for a small cost effective site to unlimited pages for the more sophisticated site. Generally you can start off small and transfer to a bigger hosting account as the need arises. You may also want to check your ISP (Internet Service Provider) as they sometimes offer free hosting or web space. There are many providers to choose from but again I use godaddy as it keeps my domains, hosting and other applications i.e. Blogging all in one place. I have also used host gator but find godaddy easier.

Stay away from the free websites as they are plastered with advertising - yuk and website tonight as you cannot add a blog to it. Start with the economy hosting package. You can always upgrade once the pennies start rolling in to the deluxe or premier package.

3. Website, Blog site or Both

The next step is to design your website - now unless you have had design experience I would recommend you use the new trend of developing a Blogging site. For that we will use the free application within Godaddy with Wordpress. Read the Installation guide Installing Wordpress.

A little further in you may wish to develop your own website and capture pages using a website editor for now thats not imperative so do not get bogged down in desiging the look and feel of your own site.

4. Auto responder and Contact management system

Once people become interested in what you have to offer you will need some way of maintaining your list or database and have a way of being able to email them on a regular basis. Similar to a mail merge facility. A place where you can write a series of emails and have them triggered to go out to people at set intervals on an automated basis so that you can use time leverage. .

With good programming knowledge you can set your own system up on your own servers but that is complicated and time consuming. The good news is there are a number of good ones out there. They also have good protocol in place to keep you on the right side of the spam laws.

Its a tough decision when deciding on which auto responder to use each have their good points. I primarily use Aweber but also like Response Magic and Icontact. They all come with tracking.

5. Tracking

This is a piece of software that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your advertising. Very important for structuring and knowing which works best in effective advertising. If you choose a good auto responder check to see if it comes with adequate tracking. The links above do,
